How To Lose Weight Doing Zumba

After you have tried a few Zumba classes you will want to do Zumba at least four times a week to lose weight. You can do Zumba by going to a live class at a gym or at home using the Zumba Fitness DVD’s or Games for the Nintendo Wii, PS3, or X-box (see below for more information). If you try a Zumba class near you and think it was too difficult or you didn’t like it, try another class with a different instructor. Zumba instructors have their own style; some may be more challenging/some easy, so keep looking until you find an instructor that fits your needs and style of dance. Don’t get discouraged if Zumba seems a bit of a challenge at first, it really does not matter if you don’t get all the moves right away. Just have a good time and “feel the music” while you move. How Many Calories Will You Burn in a Class?

You can burn up to 800 calories doing one hour of Zumba, but that does not allow you to go and eat an extra piece of pie! Follow a healthy low-fat, low-sugar, low-caloric diet to lose weight. Increase healthy low fat proteins and satisfying vegetables into your diet. Reduce your soda and sugary drink intake to lose weight. How To Find a Zumba Class Near You

Go to Zumba.com and click on class locator. Put in your zip code or city you live in to find a Zumba class near you. The Zumba website lists contact information for each Zumba instructor such as an email address or phone number to find out more details about the class.

Safety During Zumba Class

Because Zumba is a dance exercise class you need the right shoes to protect your feet, knees, back and hips. Find shoes that have a small pivot pad on the ball of the foot that makes knee and foot rotate safely. Any type of supportive tennis shoe that does not stick to a gym floor will allow you to move more freely, thus protecting your knees, hips and back. If you have shoulder, knee, or back problems, use gentle/small movements while doing Zumba, including the arm movements. Warning, the energy during Zumba class may take over, but keep your movements small and in control if you are experiencing any kind of joint pain during or after your Zumba classes. As always consult a physician before starting any type of exercise program, including Zumba.
